A visit to the temple, and a cop.

Tag: Country Affairsvsanjay @ 12:27 pm

This friday, we planned a visit to the nearest temple (45miles from Kingsville) to get an ayudha puja done for his new (seconds) car. We stopped mid-way at Driscoll, to get some onions and other fruits for cheap at the flea market. When we were finished, we were backing up the car, we had an old woman bang right into the rearish-side of our car. She said she couldn’t see us coming. WTH? We called up 911, and in a few minutes, there was this villain-ish looking cop. He didn’t allow us to talk. Elderly people are given chance to speak first. We didn’t know that. After coming to the conclusion that the mistake was on the woman’s side, he started writing a report, that took nearly 40 min. Remember EAMCET? Uhh..

We went back home, since we (not me) thought we hadn’t started at an auspicious time, and hence had to encounter this.
We started to Corpus Christi and went straight to the beach, since the temple wouldn’t open up till 5:30. The person driving was Tony. Don’t know where he was looking, but he took us straight into a paid parking system. And after roaming inside trying to get out, we called the mgmt to know that we were supposed to get a parking ticket from the Auqarium. Great.
We managed to go to the temple after that incident. The temple seemed more like a mixture of all religions. It had a minar-ish thing that looked like it was either a muslim/sikh place of worship. Inside it looked like a church, with chairs, and neatly built rooms, and furnishing. Then we had various Gods’ idols.
We returned home hungry like hell, without any further incidents.

A presentation, an exam , and a PC

Well, 10 days seems like ages in the US. A lot of things have changed in the past few days. I cancelled my Lenovo laptop, coz it missed its shipping schedule and I no longer have the patience to wait for it. I ordered computer components from newegg.com and to custom build my desktop. They should be arriving tomorrow. System config for those interested : :

19″ Widescreen LCD from Viewsonic
AMD Athlon64 2.2Ghz
1 GB Ram
MSI Mbox. This is a nice deal. It features an ATX box, PSU, and the motherboard for just 89$
A basic keyboard, and a nice Philips DVD Writer.
I already have a 160GB HDD from the external HDD that I got from India.
All for $430 and 410$ with the 20$ mail-in rebate.

The Lenovo cost 1320$, and this is a straight 900$+ lesser.

Meanwhile, I got myself accounts at Bank of America, and Kleberg bank, just to be on the safe side.
I’m yet to receive the stupid debit card from Wellsfargo.  Well,  Far, Go go.. I hate you.

Btw, I finally have my Linux/Unix presentation tomorrow. Hope it goes well. I also have the computer networks  midterm tomorrow.. Gotta prepare well !!

Weekend posting!

Tag: Uncategorizedvsanjay @ 6:37 pm

Hi again, I get to post on the weekend again. Its been a long weekend with lots of stuff going on. First off, my wellsfargo account gets canceled due to a error on the bank management’s part. I have to go running around to get my account back.

Lenovo meanwhile needs money for my laptop. So, I call them up and give them my room-mate’s Debit #. Anyways, that laptop is yet to be shipped. God knows why its taking all that long.

Meanwhile, I receive my Texas ID card, my new webcam, my new 500GB Hard Disk, and on the same day, I take my IP test , and pass it too. One of my room-mate says he’ll teach me how to ride a car. Wonderful.

Btw, I’ve two exams on the Monday, and I’m gonna have to spend my weekend, studying.

Weekend Review.

Friday was quite boring, mostly spent in waiting for my Wireless and Landline+Internet phone. Fedex arrived with my Verizon at 2:30pm. I hadn’t known which phone my Uncle had sent, so I was excited about that too. I opened it to see a basic Nokia phone. The excitement of finally getting a phone to chat over the weekends covered up the disappointment over the phone device.

The Wirephone (ATT) was installed at around 4:00pm. Later that evening, I went to Walmart, and got myself a Uniden cordless phone for the landline for $9. Perfect.

Next day, I install the modem that I’d got a few days ago, only to find that I was getting horrible speeds of 224kbps’V’ and 128kbps^ . I call them up and I’m told that there is a restriction on the account for the first few days, during which the line is tested. The restriction was removed when I called ‘em up, and now I’m here writing using my fast internet connection.

Feel nice to have finally broken free from limits of prepaid phones, and data limits of CMA’s expensive internet access.
